This month's roastery
Spain / Barcelona
Why we chose them
You picked these. At the Nomad tasting at Nude Coffee we poured the range side by side, and these three are the coffees you chose: an easy, fruit-forward filter, a sweet and floral espresso, and a competition Geisha that costs what it costs because it genuinely is that good. Southern Europe roasts differently than the Nordics do - a touch rounder, a touch sweeter - and we think it's a nice change of pace going into autumn.
About
Nomad Coffee started in 2011 as a one-man coffee cart run by Jordi Mestre, who had just come back to Barcelona after two years behind the bar in some of London's best coffee shops. In 2014 he opened the Coffee Lab & Shop and pretty much single-handedly kicked off third-wave coffee in the city.
Today they roast out of Poblenou and ship to more than 45 countries, but the sourcing instinct hasn't changed: high-altitude single origins, bought on flavour, roasted light and clean. They also run The Coffee Academy and the Silent Barista project, which trains deaf baristas - the kind of thing that tells you what a roastery actually cares about.
We order just a few bags per coffee- once they're gone, they're gone.

Every drop needs a workhorse, and this is it. Burundi doesn't get talked about enough: this is a clean, fruit-forward filter you'll want every morning. Nomad roast it for filter only.
Floral, tangerine, roasted pineapple. A washed Red Bourbon from Burundi, grown at 1,800 m - juicy acidity balanced by real sweetness, bright and clean from the first sip to the last.

Washed · 250g · Espresso
Our espresso pick. A washed Ethiopian pulled as espresso is sweet and floral instead of heavy and bitter, and it's just as good with milk. Nomad roast this one for espresso.
Green melon, white sugar, almond blossom. A classic washed Ethiopian from Guji (1,850-2,100 m) - very sweet and floral, with lemongrass and white tea, a soft acidity and a honeyed body.

The competition lot. Geisha Inca is the Peruvian take on Geisha, and this one comes from a single producer in a cooperative of 500+ families in the Incahuasi Valley. Four bags only.
Orange blossom, sultana raisins, white chocolate. A washed Geisha Inca (SL9) grown at 2,150 m in the Incahuasi Valley, Cusco - ripe fruit, milk chocolate and dried apricot over a syrupy body.
